Goal: Increased Opportunity for Recycling and Reuse
Each recycling depot will be a full-service facility open to all District residents, although most convenient for the residents within the sub-region. Each depot must provide at least the following:
Services
- Recycling:
- Household recycling (paper, glass, metal, etc.)
- Corrugated cardboard
- Scrap metal and appliances
- Tires
- Used oil and oil filters
- Used antifreeze
- ReUse area
- Special Programs area
- Trash collection
The increase in public access to these services will likely increase the participation. At the same time, the District’s message of waste reduction and resource conservation will reach more of its residents.

Goal: Cost Savings
These recycling depots will be designed to achieve cost savings and, once constructed, the system of depots will “break even.” In FY 2006, this could have saved the District $300,000.

Electronics are currently accepted for recycling at the Barre Town depot, but will be accepted at additional depots as these new facilities are developed.
