Recycling Options
Recycling keeps valuable resources in use, minimizes use of ever-more scarce and expensive raw resources, lessens environmental damage, creates more jobs than landfilling and is cheaper for you! Since recyclable items comprise a large amount of the materials entering the municipal solid waste stream, it also conserves landfill space. Given the difficulties in siting new landfills, recycling just makes sense. So do the right thing...recycle!
Did you know that CVSWMD has a Mandatory Recycling Ordinance (MRO)?
First passed in 1994, the MRO is intended to minimize the use of resources, prolong the life of landfills, protect the environment and, consistent with the charge to each solid waste management district in the state, protect the public health and welfare.
All households and businesses in the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District are now required to recycle:
* The fee charged to recycle materials cannot exceed 50% of the cost charged to collect the same quantity of trash.
* If your trash hauler or landlord is not offering recycling of these items, please call the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District at 800.730.9475 X 106.
Your children and grandchildren will appreciate our efforts to conserve resources and reduce environmental pollution. Let's create the best world we can for them!

- You will always have recycling options available to you, no matter how you choose to dispose of your waste, even if you rent your home.
- Certain materials must be recycled by businesses and residents within the district.
- The hauler, transfer
station, or bag-drop is also required to give you a financial incentive to
recycle. This means that recycling services must cost less than trash
services.
