See the A-Z Guide for disposal options for all other types of batteries.

Lithium Batteries

Please Tape or Bag Lithium Batteries

Please bag Lithium batteries individually or cover all contacts with clear packing tape.
See video below.
Follow these safety tips to reduce risk of fire or explosion:
  • Never put batteries in the trash or blue bin.
  • Cover exposed nodes or wires with clear packing tape to prevent contact with metal.
  • Do not puncture or apply pressure
  • If damaged or swollen, bury in non-flammable material (sand or kitty litter) in a waterproof container and store outside away from buildings.
We take damaged and swollen lithium-ion batteries at our Facility (fees apply).

Embedded Lithium batteries from computers, cell phones, etc. can become unstable and bloat or emit a sweet solvent odor. This is a risk factor for fire or explosion.
