Frequently Asked Questions:

Where do i recycle _______________?
You can find out where to recycle just about anything on our A-Z Guide.
What is the difference between cvswmd and casella?
CVSWMD works with district residents and businesses to provide leadership, education, and services for reducing and managing their solid waste.  We also work with haulers to help them understand VT laws around waste and licensing.

Casella provides solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services. They own and operate landfills, transfer stations, waste collection services, and recycling facilities. Learn more about Casella.
What hours is the ARCC open?
The ARCC is open: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, noon - 6 pm & 3rd Saturday of each month, 9 am - 1 pm.
Is recycling free??
Most transfer stations will not charge you if you are bringing recycling. However, if you take your recycling to a "fast trash" location, prices may be expected. Each private hauler can set their own rates for recycling based on their hauling expenses.  Check with your hauler to find out what their rates may be.
I'm moving.... where do i take hazardous waste?
CVSWMD offers Household Hazardous Waste Special collection events annually.  To find out when the next event will be, follow this link.
my landlord isn't providing recycling or composting... what can i do?
You can provide your landlord information about local ordinances and the Vermont laws regarding recycling and composting.  You can also contact your local Agency of Natural Resources (switchboard 802-828-1294) and let them know.
What do you DO with all this stuff?? Additional Recycling at ARCC
Everything has an end source that takes it from us and recycles in different ways.
  • Many of our additional recycling items (e.g. granola bar wrappers, chip bags, bottle caps, toothpaste tubes and brushes, etc.) are sent to TerraCycle.
  • Books go to one of two outlets: Primarily, we send usable, readable literature and non-fiction to Thriftbooks in CT.  We also maintain a smaller collection for old dictionaries, law books, damaged hardcovers, etc., which go to ShredEx for paper recycling in Colchester, VT.
  • Electronics and appliances mainly go to Good Point Recycling in Middlebury, for dismantling, recovery, and resale.
I’m new to the area… How do I set up trash services/ where do I take my trash?
