Member Services Overview

All Vermont communities must either develop and implement their own Solid Waste Implementation Plan to meet State of Vermont requirements or join with other communities to meet these requirements as a group. While a per capita fee of $1.00 per resident helps to underwrite CVSWMD's waste reduction programs and services, it covers only a small portion of the costs. Additional funding is received from a surcharge tax on garbage, state and federal grants, and program fees from participants.

District Membership Provides:
Solid waste implementation planning to meet state of Vermont requirements.
Includes: the development of state required 10-year Solid Waste Implementation Plans and updating of the plan; all public hearings on the plan and plan changes; and all responses to the state’s review of the plan.

All of the administration, reporting, monitoring, enforcement, and outreach involved with meeting state requirements that towns would have to take on by themselves if not part of a solid waste district.
Includes: reports to the state and CVSWMD board; testifying at the statehouse on solid waste issues; collecting data on CVSWMD programs to monitor program usage and success; writing and adopting solid waste ordinances, such as the mandatory recycling ordinance; public education about solid waste laws; and monitoring and enforcement of solid waste ordinances.

District Website  - A frequently updated compilation of all District-related information, news, and events
Annual Report - A yearly comprehensive report on a CVSWMD's activities and financial context status
CVSWMD e-newsletter - A monthly newsletter featuring local and regional news and information
Electronic and Print Informational Materials - to educate and support our residents
Programs and initiatives - Development and maintenance of waste related programming per the solid waste implementation plan in order to meet state solid waste goals and requirements

Current CVSWMD programs include:
Grants – CVSWMD offers several small grants to help support reuse and waste reduction efforts among our member towns, residents and businesses.
Hazardous Waste Collection Program – Special collection events are held each year for residential, small business, and institutional customers to safely dispose of various types of hazardous materials at a reasonable cost.
Hauler Licensing and Compliance Enforcement - Information, support and education.

Outreach & Education - We provide workshops, presentations and talks to community groups throughout the district to help member town residents understand how to reduce waste in a way that is simple and convenient.
