How do I reduce toxics in my home?

Refuse to buy toxins! See our booklet, Non-toxic Household Cleaners, for more information on how to reduce the amount of poisonous cleaners you use.

Check out this searchable Household Products Database based on data from the National Institute of Health. It is a wonderful resource for learning about specific toxic ingredients in products commonly found around the home.

CVSWMD also is dedicated to educating about reducing toxins in our communities. Learn more about toxins by clicking the link below

How to dispose of household hazardous waste

Proper storage and disposal of hazardous waste is essential to the long-term health of Vermont's soil, air, and water.

We offer multiple annual events for collection hazardous waste and other hard-to-dispose of materials annually. Collections are open to residents of all member towns. Fees are $20 per car load for most residential loads. Visit our Hazardous Waste Collections page to learn about upcoming events near you.

Choosing Safer Products

Look for the EPA Safer Choice, Green Seal Certified or EcoLogo labels on products to identify safer choices. These organizations do research and test products to evaluate them for health and safety. They are mission driven to protect and promote human and environmental health.

Many self care and cosmetic products also contain toxins and are harmful to environmental and personal health. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and Skin Deep (Environmental Working Group), and Think Dirty, all work to help you make safer and more informed choices.
