Workshop Descriptions

Recycle Right! From Blue Bin to Beyond
You’ll have all your recycling questions answered in this in-depth workshop. Come learn the overview of Vermont’s recycling laws, what goes in/what stays OUT of your recycling bin, and what “additional” recycling is and how to do it right and how to avoid “wish cycling.”

Backyard Compost Basics
This workshop will show you some easy ways to get started composting and do it successfully, and we’ll review other ways to keep your food scraps out of the trash. You’ll learn strategies for jump-starting an old pile, and how to keep smells down, and animals out. We'll also review Vermont's food scrap ban from the landfill, and other options for managing food scraps in addition to home composting. Participants will be entered to win either a Green Cone, Soil Saver, or Compost Pail*

Safer Cleaning: Reduce & Replace Toxins at Home
Learn how to avoid harmful chemicals while cleaning your home. This virtual workshop will teach you how to identify non-toxic household cleaners, and how to make your own! Participants will be entered to win a green cleaning starter kit*

Re-Cook Café: How to make the most of your food
Join Chef Jim McCarthy and Anne Bijur for a Virtual ReCook Cafe that teaches tips, tricks, and techniques to help home cooks get the most out of their food. This webinar will feature a presentation on reducing food waste, followed by a cook-along session where you can make dinner for yourself and/or your family. Participants will be entered to win a gift bag of items to help reduce waste in the kitchen*

Zero-Waste Shopping & Swapping
Join CVSWMD educators and learn how to avoid packaging waste when you shop. Get ideas for reducing your waste and reusing more. Learn how to find simple swaps and shopping tips to lower your bills and reduce waste. Participants will be entered to win a gift bag of items to help reduce waste in the kitchen*

Visible Mending: Clothes and textiles
Self-taught mending enthusiast Ollie Cultrara will guide participants in three basic visible mending techniques for patching and darning your own items.
